The bolster has two different functions. First to lock the blade when the knife is open and second to hide it within the handle when being closed. Generally it is made of one piece of forged spring steel with a fly/bee welded onto it. The decoration on the bolster is called “Guilloche”.

In VERY EXCLUSIVE production lines the bolster and the bee/fly is forged by hand from ONE PIECE of Inox-spring steel and also decorated by manual labour. In the line Luxe the Guilloche even extends to the back of the knife.
